A Coffee Born in the Clouds
The Blue Mountains of Jamaica rise to over 7,400 feet above sea level — the highest peaks in the Caribbean. The climate here is unlike anywhere else in the coffee world: cool temperatures, frequent mist and cloud cover, rich volcanic soil, and some of the highest annual rainfall of any coffee-growing region on earth. The result is an exceptionally slow-ripening coffee cherry that develops extraordinary complexity and sweetness.
Coffee first arrived in Jamaica in 1728, brought by the Governor of Jamaica, Sir Nicholas Lawes, who received a single plant from the Governor of Martinique. From that single plant, an entire industry was born. By the late 18th century, Jamaica was one of the world's leading coffee producers.
Today, true Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee can only be grown in a strictly defined geographic zone — the parishes of St. Andrew, St. Thomas, St. Mary, and Portland — at elevations between 3,000 and 5,500 feet. Coffee grown outside this zone cannot legally carry the Blue Mountain name.

- Extraordinary demand from Japan — Japan purchases approximately 80% of all Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee produced, leaving very little for the rest of the world
- Traditional barrel aging — Blue Mountain coffee is one of the few origins still shipped in traditional wooden barrels rather than bags, adding to its mystique and cost
